A Community Support Program (CSP) provides comprehensive and intensive case management and rehabilitation services to person with chronic mental illnesses. Typically, these services are provided to adults. There are a few programs in the state that have children enrolled in the CSP. The reason that adults are the main population is the program criteria require that the mental illness be chronic. This means that mental illness must be severe in degree and persistent in duration, which causes a substantially diminished level of functioning in primary aspects of daily living and an inability to cope with the ordinary demands of life, which may lead to an inability to maintain stable adjustment and independent functioning without long-term treatment and support and which may be lifelong in duration. As you can see, there are few children and few adults who would meet these criteria.

The CSP provides services similar to a wraparound model and consumers are typically involved with the program for long periods of time. The CSP has small caseloads due to the consumers having intensive needs.

The philosophy guiding the program is consumer centered and recovery based.
